For a sustainable future.

Global Goals
Sustainability refers to activities undertaken to protect natural resources and leave a healthy environment for future generations while meeting today’s needs.
Sustainable development means planning for the lives and development of both the present and future generations in a way that strikes a balance between humans and nature, ensuring that the needs of future generations are met and their development is enabled without depleting natural resources.
With the aim of ensuring sustainability in tourism, we at Hotel Kum are fully aware of our responsibilities regarding sustainable development and sustainable tourism, and we are committed to leaving a better world for future generations.
Sustainability Policy
At Hotel Kum, our primary goal is to ensure the highest level of guest satisfaction with our products and services. As we work toward this goal, the points listed below form the basis of our core principles:
Hotel Kum is committed to adhering to all legal regulations regarding its products, services, and other activities.
Hotel Kum operates under a family- and child-friendly concept. We are fully aware that children will shape our future. Hotel Kum condemns all forms of child exploitation and does not hire children under the age of 18 for any purpose other than education.
Hotel Kum commits to collaborating with all legal organizations working to promote respect for children’s rights, prevent child abuse, and assist children in need of care and protection, and to ensuring that its employees are made aware of these issues.
Food Safety – Hygiene Our guiding principle is to implement a food safety system throughout the food chain to provide high-quality products in accordance with food safety policies, make continuous improvements, and prioritize hygiene requirements.
Our Investors and Business Partners By identifying the expectations and needs of our investors—who provide our employees and business partners with a peaceful and safe work environment—we strive to deliver better service than our competitors at optimal cost.
Quality Policy
By identifying the expectations and needs of our investors—who provide our employees and business partners with a peaceful and safe work environment—we strive to deliver better service than our competitors at an optimal cost.
Environmental Policy
Respect for the Environment - Energy Conservation: Recognizing that our energy resources are limited, we monitor our consumption data, raise awareness among our employees, and undertake initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of energy efficiency in order to promote lower energy and water consumption. To avoid harming the environment, we manage our waste and hazardous waste in accordance with recycling principles to ensure it does not pollute nature. We take care to protect plant and animal species unique to our region.
Our Approach to the Environment
The impact of tourism on national economies and on cultural and social development is seen as a major opportunity, particularly for developing countries. Over time, it has become clear that the damage tourism causes to the environment must be taken into account just as much as its positive effects. Tourism can only continue to thrive in the future if it is sustainable.
At Hotel Kum, through our sustainable tourism projects and initiatives, we aim to protect the natural environment and its flora and fauna, and to establish the infrastructure for sustainable development in tourism, while also fostering a shared awareness and understanding—which are among the most important factors in achieving sustainability. We strive to take the necessary precautions and actions, fully aware of our environmental impact.
Human Resources and Occupational Safety and Health Policy
Hotel Kum is committed to respecting all internationally recognized human rights in the course of its operations and complies with all relevant laws and agreements. In this regard, we treat all our guests and employees equally, without discrimination based on race, color, gender, religion, opinion, age, social or marital status, family origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation.
Employee Safety and Investment in Human Resources At Hotel Kum, the foundation of our human resources processes is the value we place on people—and, by extension, on our employees.
The health, safety, and well-being of Hotel Kum employees are an integral part of our focus on growth, profitability, and creating new opportunities—our strategic goals. All employees who contribute to this goal have equal access to our training opportunities.
Cultural Heritage Policy
We view our cultural heritage—guided by the principle of “A Future for Our Past”—not only for its artistic or scientific value but also as “the common heritage of humanity,” and we are making every effort to preserve it.
Guest Satisfaction Policy
Guest Satisfaction and Safety Our guests are the reason for our existence. We believe that by ensuring guest satisfaction, we can enhance our competitive edge and, as a result, achieve much better positions in the markets where we operate. Our primary mission is to turn guest complaints into opportunities by tracking them, keeping affected guests informed, and resolving them.
The services offered to our guests at Hotel Kum are based on the principle of “Guest-Centricity.” As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we use online survey forms to gather feedback from our guests regarding the quality of the services we provide, with the aim of meeting—and even exceeding—their expectations. Through our innovative practices, we focus on managing guest satisfaction rather than complaints.
Guest Complaint Management
In the service industry, errors are inevitable due to the simultaneous nature of production and consumption. However, at Hotel Kum, we are fully aware that successfully rectifying service errors requires being made aware of complaints, establishing processes for managing these complaints that generate quick solutions and are based on transparency, keeping our employees and guests informed about these processes, and ensuring their effective implementation.
Energy Efficiency Policy
At Hotel Kum, we are aware that energy is an increasingly important resource and that ensuring energy efficiency has become a necessity for sustainability. Guided by this awareness, we are committed to continuously improving our business’s energy efficiency performance;
• To support the continuous improvement of the facility’s energy efficiency performance by ensuring that the Energy Management System is effectively implemented in accordance with the objectives of the relevant standard,
• Setting objectives in line with energy policy, establishing targets, and providing the resources necessary to achieve those targets,
• To comply with all legal and other requirements related to energy,
• To reduce energy consumption by focusing on energy efficiency and, in this way, reduce our company’s energy and carbon footprint,
• To use energy-efficient technologies in all of our hotel’s operations, design, and modernization efforts,
• To prioritize energy-efficient services and products in purchases aimed at improving energy performance,
• To raise awareness among all our employees regarding energy management and, in coordination with our relevant stakeholders, to establish the communication channels necessary to achieve our defined goals,
• To continuously improve, document, and keep our Energy Management System and energy performance up to date,
• To integrate our energy-saving strategies into all our operations and to comply with environmental requirements while making business decisions,
• To encourage the use of renewable energy sources whenever possible,
• Setting, monitoring, and periodically reviewing energy efficiency targets,
• To document energy performance metrics (EnPG) and share them within the company and with other hotels under the brand umbrella, thereby enabling benchmarking
• We are committed to raising our employees’ awareness and understanding of energy efficiency through methods such as training and rewards.
Purchasing Policy
Hotel Kum is committed to prioritizing environmentally sustainable products—those produced sustainably or sourced from sustainable resources—in all of its services and product procurement.
Our procurement principles are based on giving preference to local suppliers, ensuring environmental responsibility and high energy efficiency, and verifying that all purchased products meet quality standards.
Our hotel prioritizes purchasing products in bulk, in large packages, that are recyclable, and that generate as little waste as possible.
Social Responsibility Policy
We believe that our efforts to integrate with the local community and play a role in solving social issues will contribute to ensuring sustainability in tourism.
In accordance with these principles, our hotel—which competes in both domestic and international markets—demonstrates a steadfast commitment to leadership and continuously develops and provides the resources necessary to achieve this goal.
Environmental Protection and Waste Management Policy
At Hotel Kum, one of our top priorities is the continuous improvement of our “ISO 14001 Environmental Management System,” which is an integral part of the Integrated Management Systems we implement.
Respect for the Environment—Energy Conservation Recognizing that our energy resources are limited, we monitor our consumption data, raise awareness among our employees, and undertake initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of energy efficiency in order to promote lower energy and water consumption.
To minimize environmental harm, we manage our waste and hazardous waste in accordance with recycling principles, ensuring it does not pollute the environment. We take care to protect plant and animal species unique to our region.
As we fulfill this commitment;
• In our operations, we protect the environment, prevent pollution, and aim to reduce our negative impact on the environment,
• Within the framework of legal regulations, we assess the impact of the environmental damage we cause and develop methods to mitigate it,
• We strive to prevent accidents that could cause any kind of pollution and harm the environment,
• We take care to sort our waste as effectively as possible by source, category, and hazard class, thereby increasing the chances of recycling more waste, ensuring it can be disposed of without harming the environment, and aiming to reduce the amount of waste,
• We work to ensure that our procurement of products and materials results in less waste, and we aim to reduce the amount of waste each year compared to the previous year,
• We know that using hazardous substances and chemicals only when necessary and in the required amounts will reduce both their negative environmental impacts and the amount of waste,
• By planning the amount of food and beverages we serve at our facilities based on the number of guests, we ensure that less food and beverages end up in the trash and that any leftover healthy food is put to good use either on-site or off-site,
• We help protect the environment by choosing supplies for our hotel that are labeled “recyclable” and “eco-friendly,”
• We strive to create opportunities for reuse by using returnable packaging whenever possible,
• We take care to use single-use items such as paper, napkins, toilet paper, and packaging only as needed, so as to leave less waste behind in nature,
• We take care to sort the waste generated as effectively as possible according to its source, category, and hazard class,
• We know how to use the recycling bins and designated waste storage areas located in common areas,
• We store waste properly in separate areas according to its characteristics, deliver it to licensed/authorized companies without exceeding the legally mandated storage period, and maintain records of these transactions,
• We work with our environmental officer to update our waste management plan within the statutory timeframes and submit the required official notifications at the statutory intervals,
• We train all our employees on this topic through annual training sessions and monitor our performance through monthly audits,
• We strive to use water, energy, and all natural resources efficiently. We share this commitment with our employees, guests, and suppliers,
• We measure our performance in environmental management, track this data against our targets, and work to improve our performance,
• We aim to educate our employees about environmental issues and raise their awareness,
• We organize activities on-site to encourage our guests and employees to participate in our environmental protection and waste management policies, and we work to ensure that this becomes part of our daily culture.
"Laundry on Demand" Policy for Towels and Bedding
In line with our facility’s commitment to a SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT, one of the most important aspects of sustainability is ensuring that OUR GUESTS also contribute to our facility’s efforts to reduce energy, water, and chemical consumption—and thereby lower environmental pollution levels—as outlined in our Environmental Policies.
To this end, perhaps the simplest and most effective way for our guests to support our environmental policies is by choosing when to have their towels and bed linens changed. For this purpose, we have established a “WASH ON REQUEST” POLICY for towels and bed linens.
In Accordance with Our Policy
- Our priority is to provide our GUESTS staying at our facility with information about our policy in written, visual, and audio formats.
- All necessary training and information sessions should be conducted to communicate our facility’s environmental policies, environmental philosophy, and sustainability principles to all staff.
- The bedding (duvet cover, pillowcase, sheet) and towels used by guests staying in the room are changed every two days, unless the guest requests otherwise.
- If a guest wishes to have their bedding and towels changed outside of this procedure, they should place the towel change card found in the room on the bed; the housekeeper will then replace all the linens in the room accordingly.
- Guests can also request a towel and sheet change by calling the front desk or the housekeeping number. This request is forwarded to the housekeeping supervisors and is handled immediately.
Water Conservation Measures
At Hotel Kum, the primary objective of our Waste Management System—which encompasses processes such as reducing waste at the source, sorting it according to type, collecting, storing, recovering, transporting, and disposing of it, as well as post-disposal monitoring—is to reduce the amount of waste generated, ensure that the waste we do generate is managed properly so that it is disposed of with minimal environmental impact, and recover any materials that can be recycled.
We provide training sessions for our staff to educate them on the importance of waste sorting.
We provide our guests with recycling bins to help them sort their waste in common areas and guest rooms.
We provide information about our Waste Management System to both our guests and our staff, and we strive to encourage them to reduce the amount of waste they generate and to sort the waste they produce.
All collected recyclable packaging waste and organic waste is delivered to licensed companies, thereby contributing to recycling efforts.
For room cleaning, concentrated products are selected and a dosing system is used.
This way, we achieve more effective results with smaller doses and protect the environment by minimizing waste. To reduce our paper consumption, we conduct our correspondence and announcements via email whenever possible.
Updates made to documents can be communicated through the software we use and our shared quality file.
Refillable shampoo has been chosen over single-use shampoo in the guest rooms.
The use of picnic-style items at the buffet has been reduced.
The cutlery case has been replaced with eco-friendly packaging.
An initiative has been launched to replace plastic slipper covers and laundry bags with cotton ones.
Energy-Saving Measures
Our Initiatives in the Field of Energy Conservation:
1. The hotel’s building exterior lighting, heating, and cooling systems are controlled via automation.
2. The guest rooms are equipped with an Energy Saver card system.
3. Once guests take their room keys with them and leave the room, the lights turn off automatically.
4. Energy losses are minimized by performing periodic maintenance and cleaning of all electrical devices according to an annual schedule.
5. Where possible, automatic photoelectric doors are used to minimize energy consumption resulting from heat and cooling loss.
6. The placement of heating and cooling equipment is planned in a way that does not reduce energy efficiency.
Hazardous Waste Management
To ensure that hazardous waste generated at our facilities is disposed of without harming the environment, we transitioned to the Zero Waste system in 2020. We collect and label the hazardous waste generated in our departments under appropriate conditions in our hazardous waste storage areas and deliver it to licensed companies for disposal or recycling in accordance with the law.
Used cooking oil generated at our facilities is collected in a waste oil storage tank, delivered to a company licensed by the relevant ministry, and properly disposed of. We track the ratio of the amount of waste oil recycled each year to the total amount of oil consumed, and we are working to increase this ratio (the waste oil ratio).
We have identified the hazardous materials used at our facilities in terms of their environmental impact and have stepped up the necessary monitoring measures. We are monitoring our hazardous waste volumes. We take care to ensure that the materials we use do not contain hazardous substances whenever possible, and that any materials that do contain such substances are disposed of properly.
Our goal for 2024, as it is every year, is to ensure that all hazardous waste generated at our facilities is properly collected in designated hazardous waste storage areas without being mixed with other types of waste and then handed over to licensed companies, while also implementing measures to minimize the use of materials that generate hazardous waste.
Use of Chemicals
Chemicals are substances that we use in many areas of our lives; they make our lives easier but can also lead to negative consequences due to their harmful effects. Chemicals are used in maintenance, repair, and cleaning activities at our facilities.
It is our top priority to ensure that all chemicals we use are approved, labeled, and properly packaged, and that the SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) have been provided to us. The employees who will be using the chemicals are trained by the purchasing department on the use of the chemicals, the information contained in the SDSs, usage quantities and methods, personal protective equipment requirements, and the necessary precautions to be taken. We primarily purchase large-volume concentrated chemical substances, which are diluted using automatic dosing and refill systems to ensure more economical use.
Our chemical storage facilities have the necessary safeguards in place to prevent leaks, spills, and other incidents that could harm the environment.
Chemical storage is carried out in accordance with the type of chemical, the manufacturer’s storage instructions, and applicable regulations.
Formulas for chemical use are created, and per-person consumption is monitored frequently.
We use automatic dosing systems in our pools that use the minimum amount of chemicals necessary to ensure proper hygiene.
We ensure that the pesticides used by the pest control company we contract with are products that do not harm human health or the environment.
We strive to make greater use of natural measures (fly traps, sticky paper, housefly traps, etc.).
We take the necessary precautions for situations involving hazardous chemical waste, leaks, etc., and provide staff training on how to respond to spills, exposure, and other incidents. In our chemical storage facilities, we use leak-proof spill containment basins for chemical storage.
Carbon Emissions
We source our purchases from nearby regions whenever possible. In this way, we aim to reduce our environmental impact by minimizing CO2 emissions from our suppliers’ delivery vehicles.
Carbon emissions were calculated in kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kgCO2e) based on total energy consumption from electricity, coal, diesel, and LPG.
Hotel Kum Management Systems
Hotel Kum has adopted a management philosophy focused on continuous improvement, with the goal of responding as effectively as possible to the needs and expectations of our guests and employees and making this a consistent practice. By transitioning to this management model, we have eliminated waste from guest and business processes and adopted a management model that creates value for employees, processes, guests, and all stakeholders.
Through the Integrated Quality Management System we have established, we aim to continuously improve the quality of service we provide to our guests, maximize their satisfaction, support the protection of wildlife by increasing environmental awareness, prevent accidents and hazardous situations by ensuring the safety of our guests and employees, and achieve excellence in food safety and our approach to service.
Business Principles and Corporate Responsibility
Our Corporate Responsibilities
• Being Environmentally Friendly
Our primary goal is to carry out initiatives that will contribute to the protection of the environment and cultural heritage in the region where we operate—and beyond, to the extent possible—and to manage our environmental impacts.
• Supporting the Local Community
We make a point of hiring staff from the local community. In this way, through the multiplier effect on the economy, we help the people we employ contribute to revitalizing the local economy. At the same time, we help local residents stay in their own region rather than seeking job opportunities elsewhere.
• Sustainable Tourism
Meeting the needs of our guests and the local community while keeping future generations in mind, protecting natural resources and wildlife, conserving energy and water, and improving quality of life form the foundation of our sustainability efforts.
• Creating Opportunities
We provide internship opportunities to help tourism students gain work experience. We support our employees through training and a career development program. By developing our own employees as much as possible, we aim to promote them to senior positions and grow together.
Wildlife Conservation
The cleanliness of seawater is one of our top priorities, both in terms of protecting wildlife and promoting sustainable tourism.
As part of these efforts, we provide a sufficient number of waste and packaging collection bins on the beach, empty them regularly, and keep them clean. To ensure our beaches remain cleaner, we provide training to our beach attendants and monitor the cleanliness of the beaches.
Every year, we host or support various international activities aimed at raising awareness about keeping our beaches clean. We conduct regular cleanup efforts at our own facilities.
At our facilities, we prioritize plant species that are native to this region, and we introduce our guests to the plants found here.
